Gosei Furukawa, the creator of the popular My Life as Inukai-san's Dog manga, has launched a new manga series, marking the author's return to serialized manga following the conclusion of the unusual romantic comedy.
Furukawa is best known for My Life as Inukai-san's Dog, a web manga that was serialized through Kodansha's digital manga platforms. The series concluded in 2023 after running for several years and later received a television anime adaptation.
Gosei Furukawa Returns With a New Manga
The new project represents Furukawa's latest major manga work following My Life as Inukai-san's Dog.
The author's previous series became known for its unusual premise, in which a high school boy suddenly finds himself transformed into a dog. He is subsequently taken in by his beautiful and reserved classmate Karen Inukai, who happens to be an extreme dog lover.
The story's distinctive setup helped My Life as Inukai-san's Dog stand out among other romantic comedies and eventually led to a 12-episode television anime produced by Quad in 2023.
From Unusual Web Manga to Anime
My Life as Inukai-san's Dog originally began serialization on Kodansha's Magazine Pocket in August 2020 before moving to other platforms, including Shōnen Magazine R, Suiyōbi no Sirius, and YanMaga Web.
The manga eventually concluded in July 2023, with Kodansha collecting the series into nine volumes.
Its anime adaptation premiered in January 2023 and featured Shūichirō Umeda as Pochita, Saya Aizawa as Karen Inukai, Mayu Sagara as Mike Nekotani, and Yurie Kozakai as Usagi Tsukishiro.
A New Chapter for Furukawa
While My Life as Inukai-san's Dog was heavily centered around its bizarre body-transformation premise and eccentric characters, Furukawa's new manga gives readers another opportunity to see what direction the creator will take next.
Details surrounding the new series are expected to become clearer as serialization continues, including additional information about its characters, story, and collected volumes.
For longtime fans, however, the announcement itself is exciting news. Furukawa's return means readers once again have a chance to follow a completely new story from the creator behind one of Kodansha's more unconventional romantic comedies.
Fans of Inukai-san's Dog Have More to Look Forward To
Although My Life as Inukai-san's Dog has already reached its conclusion, its anime adaptation introduced the series to an even wider audience.
The original manga's unusual combination of romantic comedy, fantasy, and ecchi humor helped establish its own distinctive identity, while the anime brought Furukawa's characters to television audiences in 2023.
Now, with Furukawa launching a new manga, fans can look forward to seeing whether the author's latest work will offer another unconventional premise or explore a completely different genre.
