The official website for Kōhei Kadowaki and NOTHING NEW's upcoming anime film We Are Aliens (Japanese: Wareware wa Uchūjin) has unveiled a new full trailer along with a fresh key visual. Alongside the footage, two new cast additions and the film's theme song have finally been confirmed.
New Cast Members Revealed
The trailer introduces two supporting cast members joining the previously announced leads:
- Ten Yamasaki, a member of the idol group Sakurazaka46, voices Konatsu, the classmate who lives closest to the story's protagonist, Tsubasa.
- Kemuri Matsui, a comedian, voices Batahara, one of Tsubasa's friends.
They join series leads Ryota Bando as Tsubasa and Amane Okayama as Akitaro (also referred to as Gyōtarō/Taro Akatsuki in earlier reports), who were confirmed back when the project's teaser trailer first dropped.
Theme Song: "Sasakure" by adieu
The trailer also gives fans their first listen to the film's theme song, "Sasakure" (meaning "Hangnail" or "Split"), performed by adieu, the solo project of actress and singer Moka Kamishiraishi. The track was written and arranged by Yaffle, who also composes the film's overall score.
About We Are Aliens
We Are Aliens is a Japanese-French co-production centering on Tsubasa and Gyōtarō (Akitaro), two boys who became close friends during their elementary school years in a rural town during the Heisei era. Jealousy and misunderstandings eventually drove them apart, and years later, memories of their shared past resurface, forcing the two to confront what really happened between them.
The film is directed by Kōhei Kadowaki, who also handles planning, screenwriting, and storyboarding duties. Kadowaki previously directed music videos for YOASOBI's "Comet," Ayase ft. Hatsune Miku's "Yokubari," and KAF's "Sore o Sekai to Iun dane." Production is handled by the NOTHING NEW film label in cooperation with the French studio MIYU PRODUCTION.
The project has already earned international recognition, having screened as part of the non-competitive Directors' Fortnight program at the 79th Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, where it was praised for its bittersweet tone and its blend of rotoscopy with live-action imagery. We Are Aliens is set to open in Japanese theaters on September 25, 2026, distributed by Toho Next and NOTHING NEW, with an international release expected to follow in 2027.
